Netiquette
What is netiquette?
internet = how we get online etiquette = behaving appropriately
internet + etiquette = netiquette
Netiquette means making positive choices when you are online. When you are sending an email, chatting with someone, or posting comments online, you should treat other people the way you want to be treated. Using good grammar, spelling, and punctuation in everything you write is also a big part of netiquette.

Netiquette for Elementary Students
*Be safe
*Be respectful
*Do your best work
- Never share your personal information (last name, phone number, address) with someone you meet online.
- Remember that anyone (even you!) can pretend to be someone else online.
- Protect your username and password.
*Be respectful
- Real people read what you write. Be sure that your writing is courteous.
- Treat others as you would want them to treat you.
- Remember that things you write live on the Internet forever. Don’t post anything you would be embarrassed to have your family read.
- Assume that other writers have good intentions; if something offends you either ignore it or send a message asking for clarification.
*Do your best work
- Think about the audience for your writing and make sure your tone matches your purpose.
- Check your grammar, spelling, and punctuation; have two peers or one adult check your writing before you post.
- Do not use acronyms in your writing. Other people might not know what they mean.
- Give credit to anyone whose work you use.
